The 3D scanner.
Built for objects with volume — two faces plus a rim or edge — where a flat, two-sided read would miss what matters.
Placed by hand
A single station, manually fed: the operator places each item. There is no arm — a coin or a figure is not fed like cardstock.
Every face and the edge
The item is turned under fixed, controlled light so both faces and the rim are captured, not only the front and back.
Physical measurements
Measurements that a flat card never has — the surfaces on each side and the rim — are written to that object's record. We measure and record; we do not grade.
Grows by item class
Coins first. Further item classes are added as their capture process is proven, one class at a time.
